Impressionism
Characteristics of Impressionist paintings include visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), ordinary subject matter, the inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles.
The work in this gallery is very loosely based on this style, in the sense that the subject matter is mainly painted outside on location and the paint is often applied impasto. This is a method of painting where by the paint is applied thickly and brush strokes can be seen, there by giving texture to the canvas. It could be said that these paintings are a cross between many styles which actually make up Simons own unique style.
