About The Artist

Simon Ambrose was born in 1971 in Orsett, Essex. Later moving to the Leigh-on-Sea area, where he has lived ever since. He attended Belfairs High School and from there went on to South East Essex College to study Furniture Craft. Even though he passed his exams, he entered into a career in printing which is where he remained for the next 14 years. In this time he learnt all aspects of the trade including letterpress and lithographic printing. Throughout this time Simon enjoyed art and spent many hours drawing and painting. He is mainly self taught and has a technical approach to his work which is most likely due to his early career choices. After spending such a time in the printing industry, Simon decided that it was time to move on. He swapped the machinery for people and went to work for the NHS where he remains to this day. He lives with his partner and has three children, who make everyday a new and hugely enjoyable experience.

He works on his pieces of art whenever he can, trying to create distinctive images in his own unique style which can range widely. His inspiration comes mainly from eras past and while he believes he has a style very much of his own, he has been influenced by such artists as Edvard Munch, Roy Lichtenstein and dare he say it, Rolf Harris.

He is always looking for new challenges and for a time was part owner of Eostre Gallery at Battlesbridge. He found that whilst this was a good learning curve, it was not quite the right time for him. It appeared to take away some of his creativity and focus, which he was determined to regain. Since putting his gallery ambitions on hold, he has been able to spend time working on new ventures and has a few things in the pipeline.
